The unique Scruffie concept starts with a good strong keel, the 16-24 footers being ballasted with built-in lead ingots. The marine ply frames, bulkheads and seats quickly lock together using a system of precisely located slots and tabs to form the “chassis” of the boat.
The builder can then opt for a number of open boat or cabin layouts by cutting away or adding seats and/or bulkheads. Thus each boat is easily tailored to the customer's precise requirement with, on the larger boats, comfortable fixed berths for up to four plus two occasional berths. A number of different rigs are available. Sloop, cutter, ketch or yawl and convertible canvas or pop-top coach roofs can be fitted to give standing headroom.

The smaller craft can be supplied with a rowing kit, a bimini top, a tailored boom tent and an electric or petrol outboard.
Without sails these attractive, sturdy craft become practical fishing or motor boats.

Shimmy, Scruffie and Stornaway continue to be the preferred choice for schools, outdoor education centers and holiday resorts.

All of our boats are well suited to commercial and workboat use.

All of our boats can be bought in kit form, partially built, or ready-to-sail.

Ready to sail fibreglass versions of our boats are being introduced, the first, Shimmy, will be available in late 2002.
